About Us
HOW WE STARTED
The Pella Community Food Shelf (PCFS) was organized in 1981 at Peace Lutheran Church to provide groceries for two families in the congregation. A shelf (hence the name) was cleared in the kitchen for these groceries. Within a short time, a broader community need was recognized, and the mission expanded. In collaboration with other churches, PCFS was supported in becoming a central food distribution point for the entire community.

As the community's need continued to grow, more space was required. In August 2016, PCFS relocated to The Well Resource Center. In March 2023, PCFS purchased its own facility at 1111 West 16th Street. This purchase will allow PCFS to continue meeting the needs of our community and its members for years to come. The building campaign, known as the HopeFULL Movement, began in March 2023 and concluded in December 2024, having reached 90% of its campaign goal.

PCFS serves Pella and the surrounding communities. As a member of the Central Iowa Food Bank Network, we are able to utilize its buying power to purchase groceries at a reasonable cost, supplementing donations from the local community. PCFS is graciously supported by area churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals through monetary donations, groceries, and volunteer efforts. As a volunteer-driven organization, 100% of donations go directly toward operations and services for our neighbors.

Who We Are
At Pella Community Food Shelf, food is the portal we use to enter into relationship with our guests. We work to know our guests so that we can walk along side their challenges. We are neighbors blessing neighbors.
